In October 2007, the “Consortium for the Protection of Alto Adige Quality Wines” was founded.
The consortium currently has 155 members who cultivate more than 99% of the DOC-designated area. The members belong to the three associations of the winery cooperatives, the private wineries, and the estate wineries. From their ranks, the ten-member board of directors is chosen.
The goal of the consortium is the creation of a common platform at which the Alto Adige wine industry can discuss its interests. At the same time, the consortium wishes to be a unified mouthpiece of the Alto Adige wine industry, both within the country and abroad.
Standing by the side of the board of directors for operational work are internal and external expert groups on relevant topics such as wine law, wine cultivation policy, wine promotion, etc. On top of that, the consortium engages in close cooperation with the Farmer’s Association, the Fruit and Winegrowing Consulting Center, the Agriculture Department of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Export Organization Südtirol, Alto Adige Marketing, etc.
The consortium was officially recognized with the Italian Legislative Decree of December 3, 2009. It thus has a direct institutional significance and is entitled to act directly with the Chamber of Commerce, the provincial government, and at the national level.
