This is the heart of the Alto Adige winegrowing region: Lake Caldaro, with its softly rolling vineyards and proud castles. It is no accident that the two most important winegrowing communities in Alto Adige – Appiano and Caldaro – are located in this fertile area.
It is known above all for its long tradition with Schiava. On top of that, today the Oltradige embodies innovation and a new departure in the areas of quality management and the palette of grape varieties. In the valley vineyards is where well-structured Merlot and Cabernet ripen, while at higher elevations, it is primarily Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir that are grown.
