Where the Vines Enjoy Being on Vacation All Year Round

It is no accident that Alto Adige is one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. And the grapevines also appreciate the mild, Alpine-continental climate with over three hundred days of sun per year.

The main range of the Alps in the north protects Alto Adige against cold winds. Toward the south, the province opens up for the temperate influences from Lake Garda and the Mediterranean Sea. Large temperature differentials between day and night, an average temperature of 18° C. (64° F.) during the growing phase, and sufficient precipitation all create the ideal conditions for high quality grapes.

The topography of Alto Adige’s winegrowing area is like a complex puzzle. Vineyards with different exposures and varying elevations, changing microclimates, and the most varied of soil types: the broad spectrum of soils ranges from volcanic porphyry to weathered primitive rock soils composed of quartz and mica to limestone and dolomite to sandy marl, offering just the right location to a multitude of both indigenous and international grape varieties.
