2017 “Alto Adige – Award for Wine Culture”

Outstanding wine culture within old historical walls. This year’s winner comes from the Bassa Atesina

The decisive question as to who has rendered particularly outstanding service to Alto Adige wine and its role in dining was answered for the fourteenth time by the Consortium of Alto Adige Wine and the Association of Hoteliers and the Hospitality Industry (HGV).

To do so, a jury consisting of representatives from these two organizers as well as sommeliers and trade journalists fanned out in order to visit and test selected establishments. In addition to the wines on offer, the design of the wine list, the presentation of the wine and the wine service, the wines available by the glass, and the pairing of the wines with the dishes that were offered, what also played a large role in a positive evaluation was above all else the accessibility of Alto Adige wine culture in the dining establishment. In the end, a visit to the Bassa Atesina produced the results: the Pomella family of Schwarz Adler in Cortaccia-Kurtatsch is this year’s winner of the 2017 “Alto Adige Wine Culture Award”.

“It is a special focus for us to honor that hospitality establishment which especially pays great attention to Alto Adige wine and cares for the local wine tradition with a variety of promotions,” emphasized HGV President Manfred Pinzger and Maximilian Niedermayr, president of the Consortium of Alto Adige Wine. “The decision that the jury has to reach each year is not an easy one,” added Hansjörg Ganthaler, member of the provincial committee of the HGV and contact for the wine industry. “In Alto Adige, there are many hospitality establishments in which the wine from the local vineyards plays a very special role.”
