New for Prowein 2017

A single vineyard wine, a new packaging and a special edition all celebrate their premieres in Düsseldorf.

Wineries between mountain peaks and cypresses, characteristic soils, and the Alpine-Mediterranean climate all bring forth top class wines in Alto Adige that are rich in aromas. A selection of them will be presented by thirty-three Alto Adige wine producers at Prowein 2017 in Düsseldorf. The most important tradeshow for wine and spirits becomes the center of the world of wine from March 19 to 21 and also serves as the presentation space for these three new additions:

The indigenous grape variety Lagrein is deeply rooted in the provincial capital of Bolzano. That is also the location of the Muri-Gries Monastery Winery, which has dedicated itself to the cultivation of Lagrein and the single-vineyard vinification of it. Thus for the first time, the 2014 “Abtei Muri” Lagrein Riserva DOC comes one hundred percent from the Moritzing district. This location is a precisely delimited area in which a unified microclimate and soil geology prevail.

Expressive labels by the well-known Italian painter and architect Riccardo Schweizer, who worked with artists such as Picasso, Chagall, and Le Corbusier, are the trademark of Franz Haas. One special feature is the elevation of the vineyards: the most recently planted one consists of Pinot Noir vines and was laid down at 1,150 meters (3,773 feet) above sea level. The 2015 Manna is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. It will be presented at Prowein in its new packaging.

The Caldaro Winery, which has formed through a merger, is represented with its “kunst.stück” [work of art]. The 2014 Pinot Blanc comes from vineyards up above Caldaro at 550 m (1,804 ft.) and is in a limited edition, bottled in magnums with an artist label, and is now available for the first time outside of Italy. Along with that, the largest wine producer in Caldaro will also be presenting the new vintages in its line.
