Alta Badia: ski instructors become wine ambassadors

Combining fun on the slopes with outstanding Alto Adige wines is the aim of the “Ski Wine Ambassador” project, launched by the Alto Adige Wine Consortium with the region of Alta Badia and its ski schools. Here, ski instructors are trained to become wine ambassadors, so that they are not only able to teach the right technique on the slopes, but also shed light on the winegrowing land of Alto Adige and its products.

Ski instructors go back to school

Before the ski instructors could take on their new role as wine ambassadors, however, they had to go back to school. Courses run by the Alto Adige Sommelier Association provided them with the necessary specialist knowledge, from professional wine tasting and the diversity of the winegrowing land of Alto Adige, with its growing areas and grape varieties, through to the characteristics of the various Alto Adige wines.

The Ski Wine Ambassadors thus now have the necessary knowhow not only to teach their guests the right technique on the slopes, but also to link this experience to the enjoyment of a product that has increasingly become the flagship of Alto Adige in recent decades. Tourists and locals alike can experience Alto Adige and the Dolomites to the full – from the beauties of the landscape and having fun in the snow and on the slopes, to the oenological pleasures of Alto Adige in a glass.

Just one of many building blocks
This offer has become increasingly important for Alta Badia as a destination in recent years. The aim after all is to offer guests as many pleasurable experiences in the mountains as possible, so the partnership with Alto Adige Wines is ideal.

The Ski Wine Ambassador is just one of the initiatives to combine the pleasures of skiing with those of wine. Another offer is “The sommelier on the slopes”, a tasting tour on skis available from mid-December to the beginning of April, where participants get to know the best of Alto Adige’s wines.

What’s more, 26 March has in Alta Badia been declared the “De dl vin”, the Day of Wine, when some of Alto Adige’s finest wines can be tasted in participating huts as part of a wine-and-ski safari through the Alta Badia ski area. Not to mention the Gourmet Ski Safari on 10 December, which marks the official opening of the gourmet ski season in Alta Badia – just the way it should be, with culinary delights and oenological gems.
