100 Points for Alto Adige/Südtirol
2009 EPOKALE from the Cantina Tramin with Top Score
Reading time: 1 '
It has never happened in Italy at all, let alone in Alto Adige. The American magazine Robert Parker Wine Advocate has awarded the EPOKALE Gewürztraminer its highest score.
The honor of 100 points has been bestowed upon this Gewürztraminer, the grapes of which originate from two of the oldest Gewürztraminer vineyards in Tramin, the village that gave its name to the wine. This white wine from the town, also known as Termeno in Italian, also owes its incomparable character to special aging in the old mountain mine shafts up in Ridnaun am Schneeberg. It is aged there for seven years at an elevation of over 2,000 meters (over 6,500 feet).
For winemaker Willi Stürz and for the Cantina Tramin, this award is a great honor. For forty years, Wine Advocate has been one of the most respected international wine magazines in which only the best wines of the world are listed. And at the very top of them is now also one from Alto Adige.
Monica Larner, wine critic with Robert Parker Wine Advocate, expressed herself on social media on the excellent outcome from the Cantina Tramin, “I’m getting a TON of excellent feedback today for the first @wine_advocate 100-point score for an Italian wine outside Piedmont and Tuscany.”
These are outstanding results not just for the Cantina Tramin, but also for all of Alto Adige. Congratulations to winemaker Willi Stürz and his entire team at the Cantina Tramin!
