Alto Adige wines sometimes show themselves to be elegant, sometimes traditional, and sometimes fresh and new. The countries to which they are exported have different preferences which are being covered with a multifaceted and exciting program for 2019.
The journey begins in Alto Adige itself. The kickoff is represented by gourmet events in the snow: “Dolovino on Snow” on March 17 and Wine Ski Safari on March 24. In early June, the winner of the Alto Adige Wine Culture Award is crowned once again, the restaurant in which Alto Adige wine plays a special role. THE event of the year` for the Alto Adige wine industry will without a doubt be the “Wine Summit” from September 5 to 8, a gathering for the public involved in the industry from all of the target markets with a focus on the contrast and multifacetedness of the winegrowing region of Alto Adige. At the Hotel Tradeshow from October 14 to 17, the Alto Adige varieties Schiava (Vernatsch) and Lagrein take the stage within the framework of “Autochthona”. In addition, at “Tasting Lagrein”, a prize is awarded to the best wine made from that authochthonous grape. The close of the year’s program will be marked by “Top of Alto Adige Wine”, at which the wines that have won recognition from the most famous wine guides will be feted.
Just like every year, the “Vinitaly” tradeshow will be an important milestone for the year’s program in Italy. From April 7 to 10, wine experts will come together to have the opportunity to meet producers and taste their wines as well as to participate in thematic tastings, inform themselves about current trends in the wine sector, and exchange information with insiders in the field. On top of that, in 2019 there will be a photo and video contest via Instagram and Facebook for the trade press with the gourmet event I vini dell’Alto Adige alla corte degli chef [“The Wines of Alto Adige in the Court of the Chefs”] with Michelin star chefs in Rome and Naples. Seminars will also be held in cooperation with various sommelier societies in Milan, Florence, Bari, Venice, Treviso, Rome, and Naples. And there will be press trips for journalists.
Among the highlights on the German market will be the “ProWein” tradeshow from March 17 to 19 in Düsseldorf. At this leading tradeshow in the sector, national and international wine producers will be presented. And Alto Adige’s winegrowers will be represented at a group stand. Workshops and masterclasses in Düsseldorf, Munich, and Hamburg, seminars in cooperation with sommelier academies in Koblenz, Hamburg, Berlin, Heidelberg, and Munich, and general press work will round out the program in Germany.
And Alto Adige wines will also be represented beyond the continent of Europe. This will include, for example, BevCon in Chicago, an event for the public from the industry; Somm360 in New York, an educational event for renowned sommeliers; the London Wine Fair on May 20 in London, the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits fair from November 7 to 9 in Hong Kong, and tastings in a variety of states in the USA, in Moscow, Russia; Osaka, Japan; and Zurich, Switzerland.
There are thus already quite a number of surprises in store for 2019.
