Top of Alto Adige Wine

Exclusive Tasting of the Best of the Best

23.11.2018

Some 187 awards for 133 Alto Adige wines in renowned Italian wine guides and a tasting: within the setting of the Top of Alto Adige Wine at the Merano Kurhaus on November 30, the most exquisite wines of Alto Adige will be offered for tasting to wine connoisseurs and all those interested in wine.

Over the course of the year, the renowned Italian wine guides Gambero Rosso, Slow Wine, L’Espresso, AIS, Veronelli, Vinibuoni, Doctor Wine, and Bibenda have provided their evaluations and selected the best wines.

Right at the top of the podium this year are seven wines that each received awards from four different wine guides:

-2016 Windbichel Vinschgau Riesling from the Unterortl Estate Winery – Castel Juval;
-2015 Terlaner I Grande Cuvée from the Cantina Terlano;
-2005 Terlaner Weißburgunder Rarity from the Cantina Terlano;
-2016 Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer from the Cantina Tramin
-2010 Epokale Gewürztraminer Spätlese from the Cantina Tramin;
-2015 Terminum Gewürztraminer Spätlese from the Cantina Tramin;
- 2016 Feldmarschall von Fenner Müller Thurgau from the Turmhof Castle Winery in Cortaccia.

Five wines received awards from three wine guides, 23 of them from two, and 98 of them from one. Here is the list of wines that won awards.

When measured by the number of wines, the Cantina Terlano won by a nose with seventeen awards. Right behind with thirteen awards was the Cantina Tramin, followed by the Cantina Produttori San Michele Appiano with ten. In general, the Alto Adige wineries were very closely packed together in the rankings, a sign of the high level of quality of Alto Adige wines.
