Alto Adige wines have been awarded no less than 419 top scores in the latest editions of the most renowned wine guides in Italy. The highest ratings have been achieved by 259 wines from eighty-five different producers. A clear demonstration of how high-quality wine production is widespread in Alto Adige. What is also quite impressive is the excellent performance of the indigenous Schiava (Vernatsch) wines and the Alto Adige sparkling wines.

Moreover, from the wine guides emerges that this year’s most awarded wine is the 2021 Taber Lagrein Riserva of the Cantina Bolzano, with the highest marks in seven different wine guides. On the other hand, the producer with the highest top scores is the Cantina Terlano with twenty-three points, while the Cantina Girlan and the Cantina Valle Isarco have the largest number of wines with the highest ratings, at nine each.

An examination of the overall distribution of Alto Adige wines with top marks in the various guides shows that this year, some twenty-four wines were awarded the coveted “Tre Bicchieri” in Gambero Rosso, while Slow Wine named thirty-three Alto Adige labels as “Top Wine” and Vitae awarded thirty-nine Alto Adige wines “Quattro Viti”. This year, I Vini di Veronelli awarded Alto Adige wines thirty-one “Tre Stelle Oro” and four “Grandi Esordi”, Vinibuoni gave out twenty-eight of its “Corone”, Bibenda provided its “Cinque Grappoli” thirty-six times, Doctor Wine bestowed “I Faccini 95+” fifty-six times, Winesurf assigned scores of more than 90 points four times, and Sparkle likewise handed out four of its “5 Sfere”. Top scores were also earned by Alto Adige wines forty-eight times this year from Le Guide de L'Espresso, some 107 wines from Alto Adige were honored by The Wine Hunter, and Guida Bio awarded its “Foglia d'Oro” five times.
