Old Castle, New Winery
The Fuchs family has been producing their own wines since 2009
Since the 13th century, Castel Annenberg has stood proudly above Latsch in the Vinschgau Valley. Much shorter, however, is the castle’s history in winemaking — it was only in 2009 that the Fuchs family began marketing wines under the Castel Annenberg label.
When Christa and Manfred Fuchs first announced their decision to dedicate themselves to wine production around Castel Annenberg, the idea was not met with unanimous enthusiasm. “Our children weren’t particularly thrilled that we wanted to try our hand at winemaking here — but by now, they fully support us,” Christa Fuchs recalls.
This is likely due in part to the consistent development of the winery, and in part to the very individual path the family has taken from the beginning. While Castel Annenberg in Latsch also relies on well-established grape varieties such as Kerner, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir, the Fuchs family has also successfully experimented with white varieties like Solaris and Scheurebe.
Regardless of the variety, however, precision, manual labor, and strict quality control are top priorities at Castel Annenberg. “Only this way can we ensure that our wines develop the elegance and finesse we want to offer our customers,” says Christa Fuchs.
Elegance and finesse: perhaps exactly what one expects from wines crafted at a historic castle.
