Northern Wine Route

In addition to the connected bike path network on the valley floor, it is above all else trips in the Alto Adige wine landscape that are always worth an excursion. From vineyard to vineyard and from winery to winery, the pleasurable anticipation of the next destination makes the pedals move just a little bit faster. One of the three routes along the Alto Adige Wine Route begins at the Piazza Walther in Chiusa. The Northern Wine Route leads through the classic cultivation zone of Santa Maddalena and its Schiava (Vernatsch) grapes to Gries, a prime place to get to know another indigenous grape variety, Lagrein, right in one of its favorite locations. The Northern Wine Route runs over a total of 45 kilometers (28 miles) and a 384 meter (1,260 foot) change in elevation and continues down to Terlano, Vilpiano, and Nalles. The return back to Bolzano also leads to a bike loop that lasts around three hours and runs through Andriano and Frangarto. The route can be managed by just about anybody and is also suitable for families with children.
