International guides:
283 top scores for Alto Adige wines
283 top scores for 213 wines from 58 producers: The verdict of the most prestigious international wine guides once again demonstrates the breadth of the presence of Alto Adige at the very top – a breadth that is evident among producers, wine-growing regions and grape varieties alike.
The undisputed highlight this year are the 100 points awarded by Robert Parker to the 1991 Pinot Blanc Rarity Alto Adige Terlano DOC from the Cantina Terlano. It is only the second white wine from Italy to have achieved this top rating, thereby underlining Alto Adige’s status as Italy’s premier white wine region. The 2021 Terlaner I Primo Grande Cuvée Alto Adige DOC from the Cantina Terlano also received 100 points – this time from James Suckling.
Taking a look at the top scores, once again this year, Alto Adige proves itself to be a region renowned for its white wines – albeit only just. Of the 213 award-winning wines, 100 are white wines, 98 are reds, 11 are dessert wines and four are sparkling wines. It is also interesting to take a look at the grape varieties, with Pinot Noir once again topping the rankings with 48 top marks. This is followed by Chardonnay (33), Pinot Blanc (29) and Sauvignon (28).
That leaves a look at the most award-winning wines. The 2012 Pinot Blanc Rarity Alto Adige Terlano DOC and the 2022 Terlano I Primo Grande Cuvée Alto Adige DOC – both from the Cantina Terlano – each received six top marks.
