Alto Adige Award for Wine Culture 2.0

Since 2004, the Alto Adige Award for Wine Culture has been one of the most coveted prizes for Alto Adige’s restaurants. This year, for the very first time, the “Special International Award” is also being conferred. It will go to people, institutions, or companies that have rendered outstanding services to the brand of Alto Adige Wine outside of the province.

The first winner of the award in this category is an author, consultant, wine expert, and culinary advisor. And with his books, he has more than anything else created a monument to the brand of Alto Adige wine. We are speaking about Otto Geisel. On top of his work as an author, he brings people to Alto Adige again and again in order to provide them with an insight into Alto Adige’s cultural landscape, its winegrowers, and the life and the people of the province in addition to Alto Adige wine itself.

For Geisel, Alto Adige has become something like a home away from home. He constantly observes the developments of the Alto Adige wine world, follows its successes, creates contacts with winegrowers, and provides for exchanges and inspiration. Last year, he was involved in the organization of the renowned “Eckart-Witzigmann Award” in Bolzano and brought famous chefs to Alto Adige to draw inspiration from the world of Alto Adige wine right on site.

The special award was conferred upon Otto Geisel today at the Tantris restaurant in Munich.

At the local level, the Alte Post restaurant in Termeno and the Ütia de Bioch Alpine refuge in Alta Badia were granted the Alto Adige Award for Wine Culture for their special efforts to promote wine culture and Alto Adige wines in their establishments. They prevailed against some eight hundred renowned competitors.
