Central Wine Route

Central Wine Route

The Central Wine Route is somewhat shorter than the Northern Wine Route. But this route has a greater elevation change to cover, making it somewhat more difficult. But with a little athletic preparation, it can nevertheless be managed by most aficionados of Alto Adige. This time, the starting point is at the Piazza Stazione in Caldaro. From there, the Central Wine Route leads through the Monticolo Woods to the two Monticolo Lakes. On warm summer days, this bicycling destination also offers a cool and refreshing change of pace. A stop at one or both of the swimming lakes is always welcome after having gotten the circulation going on the bike path. Then it’s back in the saddle again to pedal back toward Cornaiano. The view from there to the vineyards of the Bolzano basin is truly something to behold. It is fabulously beautiful. After that, the route continues on to S. Paolo and S. Michele back to Caldaro. Bicyclists should count on two hours for this roundtrip, not including breaks.
