Alto Adige Wine Culture Award:
British Wine Expert Nancy Gilchrist Honored
The British wine expert, consultant, and educator Nancy Gilchrist MW was recently bestowed with the Special Award for Alto Adige Wine Culture. For many years now, Gilchrist has been intensively involved with the Alto Adige wine landscape. She is a wine ambassador and, as such, is committed to promoting the Alto Adige wine culture in the United Kingdom.
Nancy Gilchrist from Oxford has been a Master of Wine since 1995, and thus she has held the world’s highest possible qualification in the wine sector for nearly thirty years now. For almost as long, she has been active as a lecturer at the most varied of British institutions and organizations of continuing education. She gives courses on wine culture and wine pairing throughout Great Britain, informs her public on a broad palette of topics focusing on wine through a whole series of English-language media, and represents Alto Adige as a wine ambassador to her home country.
“Nancy Gilchrist is an extremely committed communicator of knowledge regarding wine, and we are very grateful that she also pays special attention to the Alto Adige wine culture,” said Andreas Kofler, president of the Consorzio Alto Adige Wines. The Consortium grants the Special Award for Alto Adige Wine Culture to individuals and institutions who have rendered outstanding service outside of Alto Adige to our local wine culture.
A few days ago, the award was officially presented to Gilchrist. “What makes Nancy Gilchrist a more than deserving prizewinner,” said Kofler, “is not only her commitment, but also the fact that she always approaches the Alto Adige wine culture not only with the trained eye of an expert, but also with a great deal of goodwill.” Gilchrist recognizes the efforts that Alto Adige winegrowers, estate wineries, and cooperatives have made in recent decades to constantly improve quality. The President of the Consorzio Alto Adige Wines went on to add, “Thanks to her decades of experience, she has not only followed the rise of Alto Adige wine to the top at the international level, she has also actively accompanied it.”
It was Eduard Bernhart, Director of the Consortium, who officially presented the Special Award to Gilchrist. He thanked the honoree for her tireless commitment and the appreciation that she has shown for Alto Adige and its wine. He explained, “The Alto Adige Wine Culture Award is intended as a sign of this gratitude and recognizes the many years of collaboration and commitment to our Alto Adige wines.”
