Vintage 2015

An exceptional vintage that will be remembered for a long time to come

South Tyrol's winegrowers and cellar masters are delighted with an outstanding 2015 vintage for red and white wines. The quality is impressive: the harvested grapes were consistently healthy, with excellent extract and sugar values.

South Tyrol's vineyards were largely spared from disease in 2015. The use of pesticides was reduced to a minimum in line with integrated cultivation practices. Even the high temperatures during the record-breaking dry summer did not harm the grapes. The heat stress actually had a positive effect on the red grape varieties. For the white grape varieties, the weather shortly before harvest was decisive. The moderate temperatures and cooler nights from the second half of September 2015 onwards were ideal for white wine varieties.

What makes 2015 such an outstanding wine year in South Tyrol? The ideal harvest time could be chosen for each grape variety without any problems!

In South Tyrol's wine-growing regions, the harvest began in mid-September, and for the first white wine varieties, even in the first days of September. By mid-October, the harvest was complete in almost all wine-growing regions. The grape harvest volumes are also cause for celebration: they are now back to the long-term average.

What can wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts expect? The 2015 vintage in South Tyrol presents beautifully mature aromas, fruity and full-bodied white wines – especially Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, and Gewürztraminer. The Vernatsch wines are accessible and full-bodied with bright colors. The other red wine varieties are powerful, structured, and harmonious, with Lagrein, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet standing out in particular. All wine lovers can look forward to top-quality South Tyrolean wines that impress with their longevity, structure, and elegance.
