Looking for natural balance
Cultivation; authentic Terlano wines
Respect for nature, vines, and grapes; a lot of circumspection; a lot more manual labor, and no stress (for the wine, at least): these are the principles on which Malcolm Salvadori has built the operations of his Weingut Leya winegrowing estate.
“I’m with my grapes every step of the way with patience and precision until the harvest,” explains Malcolm Salvadori, and he adds: “My goal is to create natural balance using simple, efficient tactics.”
The head of the Weingut Leya winegrowing estate in Terlano acquired the necessary theoretical foundation when he studied enology at university. Numerous visits to winegrowing estates and cellars all across Europe then helped Salvadori gather enough experience to run his own winegrowing estate.
And the principles on which he runs it are accordingly clear. The grapes are vinified true to the principle of respecting nature in wines. This leaves the latter room to ferment spontaneously and mature in their own time. “This is the only way for these fine differences, which you can observe in the different vintages of authentic wines, to form,” says Salvadori.
Bearing that in mind, it is easy to describe the guiding principle of the Weingut Leya winegrowing estate: “I’m looking to create unique wines which inspire enthusiasm and embody the characteristics of our Terlano terroir,” explains Malcolm Salvadori, and he goes on to add a short and succinct description of his wines. They are, he says, “lively, brilliant, mineral-rich, and long-lived.”
