Classic wines from breathtaking vineyards

From around the world to Vinschgau

The Castel Juval Unterortl winery is located at 700 m above sea level at the entrance to the Schnals Valley. Thanks to its unique position on the nose of the Juval hill, the vineyards benefit from various sun exposures and altitudes. The vineyards stretch from east to west, ranging from 620 to 850 m a.s.l. The terroir consists of original glacial deposits with gneiss rock and sandy soils.
The winery was founded in 1992 by Reinhold Messner.
Today, Raphael and Christine Burki lease the Unterortl farm, which passed into the hands of Simon Messner a few years ago and has been organically certified since 2023. After studying oenology at the University of Geisenheim (Germany), Raphael Burki worked as cellar master at a winery in Switzerland and also in New Zealand, where he was in charge of winemaking for 15 years. On 4.3 hectares, classic grape varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, and Pinot Noir are cultivated and vinified on site.

The different altitudes and exposures of our vineyards provide an excellent foundation for us to produce wines with tension and character.
