A winery with its own grape variety
The Oberfurner winery has something only very few wineries have: its own grape variety
The roots of the Oberfurner winery in Villandro can be traced back to 1510. It is therefore not surprising that it has left its mark in the course of this long period of time. There is even a protected grape variety named after the estate: the Furner Hottlinger. This light red variety, which is similar to Schiava, was widespread in Valle Isarco until a few decades ago, but today it is almost only found in the vineyards of the winery that gives it its name.
For a few years now, there has been a private winery at the Oberfurner winery, which was founded by triplets and which is run according to the motto: Simply triple good. Which means: Each of the three brothers brings his own strengths to the business. And the division of labour is also clear: Michael Kainzwaldner is responsible for viticulture, Klaus for the cellar and Tobias for sales and marketing.
While the young generation has laid the economic foundations of the winery, the privileged location on the sunny slope above Valle Isarco provides the natural conditions for producing quality wines: the fresh and elegant white wines that have made the growing region famous far beyond its borders. This is also reflected in the varieties that grow in the Oberfurner vineyards: from Müller-Thurgau and Sylvaner to Grüner Veltliner, Kerner and Gewürztraminer. And to cap it all, the Oberfurner winery also offers a Pinot Noir.
