WINE is art and art tells a story

In the heart of Santa Maddalena lies the Waldgries manor in Bolzano. It was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1242, and is therefore one of the oldest estate wineries in and around Bolzano.

Ansitz Waldgries has been owned by the Plattner family for almost 100 years and throughout this time it has always been a place of vision and creativity.

The focus at Ansitz Waldgries is on the red wines on the indigenous grape varieties: Schiava (red wine S. Maddalena Classico), Lagrein, and Moscato Rosa.
Among the total of 9.2 hectares which Christian Plattner tends are also vineyards in Ora and Appiano-Monte, in the latter of which are planted Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc.

Wine Path:
A public foothpath, 600 m long, runs through the vines and is called “Zeit in Waldgries” – Time in Waldgries”. The wine trail is the ideal way to explore the vineyard independently before or after the tasting in our enoteca.
