Summer in your glass

… and on your plate: the best wines to pair with your dishes

Summer has finally arrived bringing lightness, enjoyment and fun back to our tables. Colourful and fresh dishes are the order of the day – this is the moment to start pairing summer recipes with the right wines. Read on to discover some of our favourite pairings for this summer.

A real classic on any summer menu is the versatile honeydew melon. We make it in a way that is peculiar to Alto Adige and add a French touch: thin slices of Speck Alto Adige PGI together with Roquefort cheese create an intense interplay of flavours, for which a young Gewürztraminer Alto Adige DOC makes the perfect accompaniment. The carpaccio of Speck Alto Adige with figs and mustard dressing and its delicate summer flavours go best with a full-bodied Santa Maddalena Alto Adige DOC, a variety of the native Schiava grape.

While the warmth of summer is setting in, our desire for low-calorie and refreshing food it’s increasing. Above all, we crave the flavours of Italy’s Mediterranean cuisine, like the fresh courgette crudaiola with mozzarella from Alto Adige, ideally paired with a crisp, fruity Sauvignon Alto Adige DOC.
If you like quick appetizers but can't do without carbohydrates, a chickpea pasta salad with Alto Adige PGI apples will give you all essential nutrients while the invigorating Pinot Blanc Alto Adige DOC whose fruitiness, will add elegance and simplicity.
And what would summer be without a barbecue and the aroma of grilled food? For your next barbecue event, delight your guests with grilled beef slices served with potato and courgette skewers and BBQ sauce, served with a Lagrein Alto Adige DOC or a Merlot Alto Adige DOC: the tannins and fruit flavours create exciting contrasts with meat. But if you like fish more, the pan-fried char fillet with Alto Adige PGI apples and horseradish will tempt you out into the garden. The balanced acidity and minerality of a Riesling Alto Adige Val Venosta DOC it’s the perfect complement to the crispiness of apples.

And, speaking of summer pleasures, when evenings get lighter and you can call it a day, drink an aperitivo with a Müller Thurgau Alto Adige DOC. It’s the ideal wine for a cheerful toast.
